On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death day of Emperor Maximilian I, the State of Tyrol declares the year 2019 the Year of Maximilian . Under Maximilian I, Innsbruck became a hub of the dynastic politics of the House of Habsburg and a place of activity for numerous important artists that worked on his "Gedechtnus" (remembrance). He was a trailblazer of a new dimension of European culture and politics. The State of Tyrol and the City of Innsbruck want to honor the "last knight" with a comprehensive educational, cultural and event program that does not only cast a glance at the past but also the present and the future.
