Maximilian I. - Into The Modern Era

Emperor Maximilian I is one of the most famous people of the House of Habsburg. With his successful marriage politics, he laid the foundation for the rise of this family to one of the mightiest dynasty in Europe. Fickle fortunes of war shaped his life as well as technological innovations that he seized in a clever way. On the occasion of the Year of Maximilian, the Burghauptmannschaft of Austria holds a special exhibition for the emperor from May 25 to October 12, 2019 at the Hofburg in Innsbruck.

Through the latest multimedia technology, the exhibition not only presents the personage of Emperor Maximilian, the women around him and the life at the court but also topics that focus on a European or global dimension such as the complex changes at the turning point from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era. After the end of the exhibition in October 2019, it will be turned into a permanent exhibition. Annually changing main topics will help to preserve Maximillian’s "Gedechtnus" (remembrance) beyond the Year of Maximilian.
