On September 25, Philip the Handsome dies. Joanna, who was very much in love with her husband, outlived him for 48 years. She was known to be mad and so her father and then her son Charles V reigned the kingdom of Castile. In 1509, Joanna was brought to the monastery of Tordesillas where she died in 1555. Recent investigations, however, doubt the "madness" of Joanna and regard her as a victim of political intrigues.
